MSc Trainees

Successful applicants will be contacted by administrators from NHS Grampian with initial paperwork, and the SMPCETS operational HQ (at NHS Tayside) will also be in touch with further guidance.  Please do not be concerned if this takes a while, as the process can be a little slow.  Once the formal offer has been accepted, then it will be necessary to register for the appropriate MSc degree in Aberdeen, Glasgow or Strathclyde.  The initial application needs to be progressed by the trainee directly (around late June or early July), and help will be provided when you reach details about how the course will be paid for.

The trainee network provides a lot of useful information through their welcome pack, and they will also be in touch to invite successful applicants to become a part of their team.  Our colleagues at NHS Education for Scotland (NES) also have a welcome pack for all Healthcare Scientists which may be of interest.  Further information is available on TURAS Learn, which is accessible once an account has been created.  For further information about the SMPCETS at this stage, please contact the operational HQ (tay.smpcets@nhs.scot) with any questions, and we will answer as soon as we can.

For MSc trainees who are already on the course, MSc projects will commence in April/May at your host hospital.  Project supervisors will be in touch with arrangements for how, when and where to begin.  Projects are due to be completed around July/August (depending on the MSc course being studied), and MSc presentations will follow shortly afterwards.  Over this time period, training coordinators will also be in touch to confirm the training schedule for the Foundation Year (FY) rotations, which will begin in mid September.  For precise dates, please speak to your training coordinator about this.  The trainee should also let their training coordinator know of any annual leave plans that are known about, as it would be better for this to be factored into the training schedule at this stage.  Full information on SMPCETS trainee annual leave guidance can be found via the link.
